yard saling
We went yard saling today. We're huge, avid, junkie yard salers, but with all the rain, we haven't been able to go yard saling for a month or so. Next Sat my sister in law's getting married, so no yard saling then, either (I'm still trying to figure out a way to steal an hour though). We were gone about 7 hours yard saling & just got home.
I did good- I came home with a TON of crafty stuff, from needles, fabric, buttons, zippers, patterns, etc., to circ needles & another tape measure (can never have too many of those), and so on. Yes, I did come home with yarn. But... most of it was free. I got a kitchen trash bag sized bag of yarn for free, and most of it appears to be mohair. Some is missing labels, but it looks like the same as the labeled mohair stuff. So- it's all for CIC (or possible Warm Woolies, which I'm also starting to knit for), and I didn't pay for it. I still feel guilty as sin, though. I also actually bought - for 25 cents - a bit of wool tapestry yarn. It's about enough for the feet of two kid socks for CIC. I picked up two 100% wool sweaters to take apart for the yarn for CIC for $1.30 - $1 for one, 30 cents for the other. I feel guilty about that, too, but that was my exception - wool yarn for CIC.
And... AND... I passed up a ton of other yarn... it was all acrylic (which I use for nursing home afghans) but since I have about 1000 pounds of it in storage, not to mention the few hundred pounds of it I have here (I'm being literate here), I don't think I really need to buy more. Normally I will - how can you pass up a tote full of yarn for a dollar? I did pass up some vintage sock yarn - that was the hardest to pass up. Enough for 2 pairs of socks for me, for $1, along with odds & ends of other yarn, some wool blend, but mostly acrylic. And I was good - I passed it all up. I tried to reason with myself & buy just the vintage wool for CIC - but even doubled, it wouldn't be thick enough for socks. Not that I don't have other yarn to add it to, but I just felt like it wasn't right.
Best of all - I paid $4.65 for everything, including the two sweaters. Not bad for a days hunting.
