Does it count if you buy yarn for someone else????

UPDATE:

In my running through a few of the entries I would like to tell Lu that I am soooooooo not worthy.....486 skeins of yarn......I bow down to you oh great collector!!! I only have 200....well.....actually I have knitted up several skeins since starting this madness of not buying yarn till Labor Day!!! What W.A.S. I thinking???? Yarn withdrawal.....it is N.O.T. a pretty thang!!!!!

My great niece has just learned to knit and is really good if I do say so myself.....does it count if I take her shopping and get her started down the road to yarn stashing??? I PROMISE not to buy any yarn for myself....although it will be great to just BUY some yarn....even if it isn't for me.....so what do you gals think???? I mean...come on.....I'm ONLY buying this yarn out of the GOODNESS of my heart for my DEAR, DEAR Great Niece!! There....that should do it!! LOL!!!

So far I have managed to knit about 4 or 5 "warshrags", two lace style shawl scarves and that is it so far....my goal is to knit up all my cotton yarn that I bought for warshrags.....I have about 15 skeins to go!!!

That would certainly help you purchase yarn! I offered to teach my daughter to either knit or crochet. She want to learn to knit, so I'm seeing this as two people getting rid of one stash!

"great collector" LOL

I think you meant "seriously addicted"!

Letting your niece shop your stash? what I bizarre idea, my daughter knows better then even coming close to my stash (she has hers). I love her more than life itself, but .... stash is stash!

I love the idea of letting her shop selected portions of your stash, but I think a visit for her, and only her, is rather a sweet treat not to be missed.

yep, i think gifting some yarn from your stash is a better option, considering the diet. that way, you destash and she gets something new to her. it's all good!

I think gifting for another person is okay? Though .. don't want her to end up like the rest of us, with -too much- stash!

Gifting is good! Think about it- if you had to buy a birthday present for someone who knits, you'd get them yarn, or other knitting related goodies! I think buying your niece some nice yarn is a wonderful thing! Gotta teach her young that there is great yarn out there, and to appreciate the good things in life! ;) Just MHO.
