Gina's Confession
It was a little bit shocking. To realize, I mean, that I had so much yarn. I'm not the kind that buys yarn just because it's pretty or whatever. I nearly always have a project in mind when I buy. I guess the problem is that I always have so many projects in mind.
Looking through, I counted the yarn for not two or three, but 10 different sweaters. This isn't even counting the 16 balls of Wool of the Andes that I was going to use for Mariah, but ripped out while knitting the yoke because I wasn't liking it. Or the unraveled, partially dyed recycled sweater yarn hanging in my closet. Or the fact that I plan on unravelling a certain finished sweater to make something else with the yarn. Or the green cashmere that is still sitting around, nearly two years after it sucked up nearly forty packages of kool-aid in my attempt to get a bright green.

And this is just sweaters. If I want to knit some socks I can do it many times over. A lace shawl? Yup. A hat? Mm-hmm. Dishcloths? Umm, yes. A bag, scarf, stuffed animal, baby blanket, homespun afghan, gloves, tp cozy? yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes, but not likely.
So here I am. No yarn til Labor Day. I'm actually really excited about this.
My exceptions:
1) I may need to knit a couple of presents this summer. If I can't make do with the stash stuff, I can buy yarn. But not much.
2) I'm on the mailing list for notification when Sock Hop yarn is available again. And I'm gonna get me some.
Reward: I have no idea. I could come up with something now, but I'm certain it would change by the end of summer.
Goals:
1) Finish some stuff.
I have two 40" addis that I use for socks. So no more than two socks going at a time. I'm not terribly concerned about matching pairs, since, in truth, I don't wear my handknit socks anyway, but there will be no pulling the sock off the addi and sticking it on some spare dpns so that I can start a new sock.
At the moment, I am knitting on 3 different sweaters. That's gonna be the limit. If I want to start a new one, I've got to finish one of the old.
I'm also allowed one other project, whether it's a hat or a bag or whatever.
Hopefully this will actually reduce the stash, rather than just get a bunch of it partially knitted.
2) Finish dad's scarf that I promised him two Christmases ago.

1 Comments:
the yarn for the lion brand circle throw in your slide show looks yummy--I like that pattern a lot, although I have used homespun now for several projects cursing it the whole way, but you can't beat it's softness :)
