Yet another Liz (Fidoknits)
Hi, I'm Liz [all: "Hi, Liz"] and I am a fiberholic. I've always been a very tactile person, and first asked my mother to teach me to knit when I was four (even though no one in my family knew how to knit). So it's not surprising that my stash has grown at an alarming rate since I started knitting on a daily basis. But it's time to simplify, to dial back the rate of acquisition and bring it more closely in line with the rate of use. My problem is not so much the "oh it's so beautiful, I'll figure out what to make with it later" yarn (because once the yarn is in my stash I yearn to use it, and therefore find the perfect project), but rather the yarn I buy for a project I plan to do, but by the time I get around to doing it, I'm no longer interested.
Goals
(1) not to buy any yarn between May 29 and September 4th;
(2) not to buy project-specific yarn until the object for which it is intended has risen close to the top of the queue -- even when exceptions apply, and even after SoSKAL is over (it's aspirational, but if I don't even try, how will it ever happen?).
Exceptions
(1) Anything from/for my SPs -- they shouldn't suffer just because my stash does not contain things they'd like.
(2) Yarn for (a) Green Gables (or similar lightweight T-shirt type thing) for me; and (b) lightweight sweaters for my kids (I don't have any kid-appropriate yarn in the stash, and it's been too long since I've made them anything other than socks).
Temptations
(1) Sock yarn. There's an attitude in the blogosphere that "sock yarn doesn't count," and it's hard not to fall into believing it. I have gobs of sock yarn. If I finish knitting ALL the sock yarn I have, then I'll revisit the question of whether sock yarn counts. But until I've knit every last yard of sock yarn in my stash, SOCK YARN COUNTS
(2) This weekend's yarn crawl with friends from all over the country when we get together in Washington, D.C. -- although I can buy yarn that fits one of the exceptions.
(3) My credit at Elann
Reminder to myself:
I have the yarn to knit: Leo, Diamond Fantasy Shawl, Follow the Leader Shawl, Shoalwater Shawl, Samus, Size 13 socks for husband, Danica, and a Baby Sweater for another coworker. That should be WAY more than enough to keep me occupied through labor day, particularly if you throw in random socks (I have a few skeins of sock yarn) and Green Gable and sweaters for my kids.
Reward
For now, getting my stash back under control is all the reward I need. If I later feel that I need/deserve more, I'm sure I'll think of something.

Now excuse me, I need to go lie down, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at what lies before me, LOL.

1 Comments:
My husband is a size 13 too, and I only knit sport weight socks for him. Love does has its limits.
